Whispering Hills RV Park Georgetown, Kentucky

For the last few family trips, we took vacations over the Fourth of July. Last year, in 2023, we decided to road trip with our camper to the beautiful state of Kentucky. We made a few stops along the way and within the state. One of those stops was in Georgetown at Whispering Hills RV Park, where we spent the first half of our week.  I found Georgetown to be a lovely little town.

The RV Park campground we stayed in was right outside the city limits, making it convenient for a little jaunt for dinner after setting up our first day. We stopped to eat at Galvin’s, which had great food and showed horse racing on the screens.

Georgetown's proximity to Lexington (26 miles) and Williamstown (33 miles) makes it an ideal base for exploring the region.

Our planned activities were within these areas for the first half of the week, making Whispering Hills RV Park a strategically located home base for our adventures.

Whispering Hills  RV Park is like a little city within itself. Many people rent for the season. A pool, bathhouse, playground, outdoor game area, picnic shelter, and multiple fire pits are set up. All create an atmosphere for recreation, relationship building, and community. When we arrived, the landscape was so beautifully designed.  There was a water feature with a pond and fish.

There is just something about the sound of water! We were led by a golf cart to our unit. The place was so large, we could have easily been lost! The roads were maintained, and each pad had either crushed rock or concrete, depending on your location.

Everyone had a picnic table and two chairs at their site. At our site, we had outdoor composite dual recliners. The whole park had trees and varying levels to give it dimension. It was very well laid out. I didn’t feel like we were right on top of each other.

We were handed free sparklers and a schedule of events for the week, including when the fireworks and band were! It was going to be a fun place to be at night. There were outdoor games like checkers and chess. Of course, the firepit areas were also a perfect spot for cool nights if we ever experienced one. (In July, we did not!)

After our full days of activities in Lexington and Williamstown, Kentucky, we settled in for our evenings at the campground. The people around us were always friendly. They smiled and waved but mostly kept to themselves.

Our first night there was the night of the fireworks. Their band played music from the 1950s, ’60s, and beyond. It was very nostalgic for us, and we thought of our parents' generation! Sitting with our lawn chairs on the far side of the picnic shelter, we were near the pond. Ducks and geese were walking freely around. Kids were fishing. You could hear the frogs croaking to the music.

It was so peaceful. As dusk came, the lightning bugs appeared. I had never seen fireflies like this before. Maybe just one or two. We are talking dozens. All flying around, like a magical scene in a movie.

I suddenly realized we use too many pesticides where we live to see them. This was a safe place for them. It was enchanting. As the music wrapped up, we moved our chairs to face the other side of the water and closer to get a better view.

We sat waiting in anticipation of remembering our nation's independence. We stood for the National Anthem. We were not disappointed. The booms of brilliant colors reflected off the pond in iridescent shimmers of blues and sparkling reds. The whites glistened as I reflected on how thankful I was to live here and be in this moment. To travel. To be free. To share this memory. We are thankful for the sacrifice of so many before us- everyone in all walks of life who gave to this country- sacrificing their blood and sweat so we could have a better life.

Until Our Next Adventure,

Lizze ❤️
