Recovering from a natural disaster takes work. My time in Fort Myers Beach has always been one of my favorite memories, and when Hurricane Ian swept through the area in September of 2022, my heart broke for the locals and all the business establishments. I am so happy to see the area is on its road to recovery.
While in Fort Myers in 2021, we spent some time on Sanibel Beach and at the Sanibel Outlet Mall. Of course, we got peckish, and what should happen to be nearby? Dante’s Coal Fired Kitchen. Its white siding, and teal aluminum roofing had this coastal vibe outside. I love that it had outdoor seating, too, perfect for a beautiful summer day.
We stepped into Dante's Coal Fired Kitchen, immediately taken by the large brick columns and suspended wired lighting. The interior exuded a cosmopolitan and hip vibe with its open industrial design. The seating was ample and comfortable, inviting us to settle in. We chose the bar, a perfect spot for engaging conversations with local bartenders about their lives and the best local destinations.
Now, let's talk about the food. I opted for the gluten-free shrimp scampi pizza, which was a delight! Dante's Coal Fired Kitchen offers a wide range of coal-fired pizza options, burgers, and pasta. The inclusion of gluten-free options is a thoughtful touch.
I had this phenomenal drink, “Dante’s Coconuts.” The glass it was served in was unique, with carvings and a mermaid. Then, it had smoking cinnamon at the top to add flavor. I don’t even know if it is available now or if it was a seasonal drink, but it was so good! I remember my husband loved his drinks, too. Like their Old Fashion, they have many fun cocktails or beers to try on tap.
I fondly remember this was just one of so many beautiful restaurants in the Fort Myers Beach area. Unfortunately, I’m sad to say the Fort Myers location never reopened after Hurricane Ian, but if you are on Sanibel Island, that location is! I’ve heard they are the best pizza around, too! Another location close to Fort Myers is Cape Coral. Hopefully, the Fort Myers location will be restored someday, but in the meantime, if you are in the Sanibel or Cape Coral area, help support them by stopping in for a great-tasting coal-fired pizza!
