We often take a winter “Vitamin D” trip to allude to the winter blues and get a good dose of sunshine. The past couple of winters after Covid, we went to Fort Myers, Florida, before the big hurricane hit the area.
One of the areas we visited in 2021 was downtown Fort Myers. For lunch one day, we stumbled upon this cute little Mexican place right in the heart of downtown. Cabos Cantina Taco & Tequila Bar looked quite ordinary from the outside, but once we stepped inside, the colors came alive! Even though it was around noon, it had a dimly lit atmosphere to create a vibe.
The vibe accentuated the walls of brick and teal wainscotting along with the playful art canvases. Another wall was made up of different stones; all these textures just added to the ambiance and vibe of the place. The art canvases hanging everywhere were Mexican theme Day of the Dead art. They were so unique and colorful, each one telling its own story.
On one far wall of booth seating, behind the bar, all the way to the ceiling, was shelving displayed with different tequila in teal lighting. In repeating the teal theme throughout the space, the bar counter had lighting running under the counter with teal as an accent. The wood of the bar counter where we sat was so rich and warm accented against the teal it was perfect,
Our food came, and I remember enjoying their tacos immensely. Not being a fan of spice myself, I appreciated the flavor of the rice and the amount of spice in their tacos. Cabos Cantina Taco & Tequila Bar is where I fell in love with cilantro! Of course, one couldn’t resist coming here without having a margarita! I believe I had a pina colada-flavored one.
I went to use the restroom, and down the hallway was more art. I had to get photos of them to share with you. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have! My favorite Day of the Dead art piece is the one with the accordion playing skeleton. I took accordion lessons as a little girl, so it brings me back!
It was a great place to have some Mexican food. I know they have more restaurants along the East Coast in other cities, but if you find yourself in downtown Fort Myers, this is a fun place for Mexican and Tequila!
